Well a great night seemed to be had by all at the Christmas Party held last night.  Thane and I would like to thank all attendees, and hope you had as much fun as we did!

We started the night with gates from Luna to the Brackenwood Village Hall. We were pleasantly surprised with the turn out and filled the 20 set seating positions requiring us to pull out a few more stools for late comers. As a welcome we gave a little spiel on the beginnings of Brackenwood as a player run village, and advised that the evenings events would use 3 of the 5 existing village buildings available for functions (the hall, tavern/theatre and arena). These event venues are also available for any guilds or groups on the shard for hire at a nominal charge, and we are still looking for the owner of one remaining plot we wish to purchase.

The first part of the evening started with the judging of our 'Christmas Fancy Dress' all guests were invited to gather around the large village xmas tree on the roof of the Village Hall (owned by Dragon Smythe) for the judging.

There were 10 entries in this competition, all of which were very good. Our third Judge hadn't managed to wake up for the party, so Thane and I were left to do it alone. This proved very challenging given that all were very good and on our first 'pass' of who we thought was the best we both had a different person for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. There was no easy way to decide, so unlucky for Thane, I was forced to make the executive decision and go with those I felt had provided something either a little different or presented better or were true to form on their selection.

Hence in 1st Place Mannanan mac Lir as Santa. We had a few Santa's but Mannanan was the most true to type with his frosty white beard which in the end was the deciding factor. (prize: heritage token and 500k)

A very close 2nd was Tamallia as the Star of Wonder.  Although just a plain gold dress and accessories, her presentation was very good in giving us a few verses of the well known Carol. (prize: 200k)

In 3rd place was Queen Aglaranna who attended in her normal xmas day Aussie outfit.  Her swimsuit and beachtowel (cloak) over her shoulders. As 'typical Aussie Christmas day attire' it was a well described and accurate representation of an Aussie xmas. (prize: 100k)

As stated tho, all entries were worthy of a win or place, but alas, we only had three prizes! Well done to everyone who took the time and effort!

We then returned to the main hall to put on our festive cloths (cloaks and jester suits crafted by EVE) and all attendee's rolled for a position on our lucky dealer, which would be used later in the 'gift giving'.

We then proceeded to the Tavern/Theatre (owned by Thane) where a short break was held while those with a poem, limerick or short verse handed in their entries for the Christmas Poetry competition.  Three judges for the competition were selected form the audience.  These were Thunder Child, Ceres de Libera, and Slade Mckenzie. Each were asked to score the contestants out of 10 and hand in their books to Thane for a 'total' at the end of the scoring.

Our contestants were:  Lady Fib, Micki DeTaker,  Bryson Fox, Mannanan mac Lir, Queen Aglaranna, and Synjin all seen to the left performing their poems to the audience.  The poems were really great and I have no idea how the judges were able to score them.  However they did so, and the results were:

First Place: Byrson Fox (prize: 1mil, 2 Heritage Tokens & Soulstone Frag)
Runner Up: Lady Fib (prize: 500k)

PERFORMED POEMS

Micki DeTaker (see graphic) As you can see Micki's poem generated some general good natured ribbing by our polite audience! It also requires the performer to have a good dose of stamina when performing anything for a largely aussie crowd!

Fib
Jingle bells, Magic Spells, friends from far away
O what fun to join this game and throw our cares away hey
Time and space dont exist in this space All are equal here
Jingle bells Spellweavers yell Paladins ride away
Sorcerers chant, Elves often rant When meeting with the fey....hey
Meeting with our friends...to fight the common foe..O what fun to slash and slay
Around the dungeons we go....ho
Jingle bells Tingle bells Have the happiest year...All Cheer

Bryson Fox
Twas the night before Xmas, when all through the land,
Santa was coming but the pkers made a stand,
They wanted his sack and to terminate the deer,
But Santa being Santa had nothing to fear.
He stood proud and tall and said in a big voice
ITS A UO CHRISTMAS and all children to bed,
In the next moment, poor Santa and his deer were dead.
The morale of this story is
No matter who you, you can get pkd.

Mannanan mac Lir
Twas the weeks before Christmas
It was time, now to go,
The Devs were all packing
for their move to the snow
Of player gifts, they weren't thinking
Too much else on their mind
The gold they were sinking
by nerfing BOS's and kind
The day had arrived
for gifts to be given
And players waited with joy
but soon they were liven
Re-gifting they say
This just is not on
Your salary we pay
and you give us this bomb
Gingerbread Cookies and sweet candy canes
We have so many, now what can we do
Start PM'ing the Dev's in order to gain
Festive turn-ins for points to save Moonglow Zoo

Queen Aglaranna
I dream of a place where the snow is falling
but inside where it's warm my name they were calling
surrounded by trees, holly and wreaths
all the atendees were spoilt with treats
outside in the dark the orcs will roam
but i'm safe here tonight and not far from home
festivities and fun will be had by all
at this wonderous event at the EVE xmas hall

Synjin
What does Xmas in Uo mean?
Lots of snow to keep you clean
Sleighs & Stockings & Mistletoe
Presents & Reindeers on the go
But still you can fight
All day and night
For gold and treasure with all your might

Following the success of our poets we proceeded back to the village hall to part take in giving out the gifts.  30 gifts from EVE to Oceania had been prepared and all contained:

1 x Heritage Token
1 x Blessed newbie quest item from the new player newbie quest.
1 x 10th anni fireworks wand
1 x Reindeer
1 x Ingenious treasure map
1 x Holiday globe from the 3rd series (issued with ML globes)
1 x Other item (either a check 166k, ophidian bardiche, black pumpkin from 2006 series, Doom or Tokuno stealable artifact)
1 x Christmas stocking

Having rolled earlier on the lucky dealer we had all attendees ranked from 1-100 and depending on the color of the robe they initially selected the choice of which box in the corresponding color they would like. No one left empty handed and those who arrived after or even for our final event still received a gift box.  In total 25 of our 30 gift boxes were given out!

As always, the intent of these gifts for any who attend is to thank the Oceania community for continued support on our events throughout the year, which is why the gifts are a little more than just a Christmas cake!

After the gift giving, for those who still had time to party on, we proceeded to the Brackenwood Arena, which is a multipurpose arena with balcony seating, changing rooms and a grass pitch for playing on.  (Owned by DragnGenes)

It was a simple game where contestants had to do one lap around the edge of the field (outside the grey and white marked area) dragging their bagball with them.  Being a tight field, any who stepped into the middle would be disqualified, although balls entering the middle were ok. The round started when the center light was lit, and other than not entering the 'middle' til they were back to their starting position there were no other rules. They were free to interfere with any one else's ball's !! if they so chose to and use any other tactic they could come up with to slow up the competitors.

Three rounds were held with the winning 2 from rounds 1&2 and the winner from round 3 (smaller start group) proceeding to the final.

The final round resulted in our three place getters for the event:

1st Place: Maelicious (prize: 1 mil)
2nd Place: Dar (prize: 500k)
3rd Place: Ceres de Libera (prize: 200k)

This event concluded the Christmas festivities for 2007.

Thane and I would again like to thank the Oceanian Community for the support shown for our events and auctions held throughout the year.  Hopefully we shall still be around for the 2008 Christmas Party!

Regards

Eleanora [EVE]
